Does the phx42 satisfy Method 21 inspections?
Yes. EPA Method 21 is what the phx42 was designed to do!
Can I see a list of the published Response Factors?
If you are already using an FID, Method 21 allows you to keep using the same response factors you are already using.
Do I have to purchase any software or pay any licensing fees to operate a phx42?
No, the phx42 communication protocol is open and published. The phxapp used to calibrate is available for free on the google play store as well as the Microsoft store.
Contact your LDAR database provider for more info regarding their mobile software licensing fees- if any.
Is a SpanBox required for Calibration?
NOPE but if you have one, it’s awesome.
Do we require training and installation?
In most cases, yes.
The reasons that we offer and provide this extra service are:
Training the techs on-site in the benefits and differences of the phx42.
Training techs on the best practices and confirming your own company/site standards on equipment management and care. (This includes charging procedures, H2 fill procedures and practices, probe tip filter practices, Sleep Mode, End-of-shift procedures, sample probe care, etc.)
Making sure the Techs know how to maximize the value of the interaction between the monitoring software and the ph42.
Confirming the proper setup of your calibration system.
Training the calibration Tech.
Training the Level 1 Repair Tech.

Are all sites required to have a Level 1 Certified Technician?
No, Level 1 Certification is not required.
If a phx42 goes down, and you do not have a trained Level 1 Technician on-site, we will issue an RMA. Fleet units may be available for rental while the repair is being completed.
Can I use on-demand regulators?
The phx42 should not be calibrated with On-Demand regulators as they do not consistently simulate the monitoring process. The vacuum required to open and hold open the valve can and does affect calibration accuracy and long-term analyzer performance.
What flow rate is required for calibration?
If using a calibration tee, 0.5LPM is ideal. A higher flow is acceptable.
Do I need to purchase a flow meter?
If you do not already have one that can accurately read 0.3 LPM, yes.
Why is an ES Backpack required?
Per the product certification, the phx42 is intended to be carried in a backpack that complies with the electrostatic requirements of IEC 60079-0 to prevent electrostatic charging of the equipment contained.
Can I get a copy of the phx42 IECEx/ ATEX Certificate?

Can I use an extension/other probe on the phx42?
Any device certified for use in hazardous environments using modern standards is done so with accessories defined or attached. The phx42 was certified for use with either the v1 or v2 probe. You should consult your safety department for a hazard assessment before using a different probe.
Any extension should not exceed 20ft of tubing with a minimum ID of 1/8”. The tubing in the standard probe is 1/16” and cannot be used as a base for an extension probe. The extension probe should utilize the same filters as the standard probe.
If you decide to move forward with an extension probe you can purchase a Quick Connect 1/8in Barb (LDAR#42011) which will allow you to connect the larger 1/8in ID tubing to your unit.
Why is there no probe display?
It is simply impossible to do Method 21 on the far side of a component if the screen is attached to the probe. The user cannot see the readout as the probe is pointed, turned and positioned to access the far side of most components.
Integration with the probe is not practical as the probe must move independently of the display to perform method 21 without having 360-degree access to every single component.
Does the phx42 have a PID option?
Nope, sorry.
Can I try a machine before ordering?
We may be able to schedule a demo and work with you on this. We do not recommend attempting to assess the phx42 without the proper on-site training.
What is the expected life expectancy for the phx42 product line?
Our previous analyzer, phx21, was supported for over 10 years. We expect a similar experience with phx42.
The Hydrogen cylinder looks like it is subject to damage or abuse. Is it safer than it looks?
The phx42 has passed every required laboratory drop test with the analyzer frozen to -20 C. The fittings that might be impacted during a drop are overbuilt and extremely sturdy. The cylinder is meant to be filled to 1800 psi and has a burst pressure of ~9000psi.
What hours is Tech Support available for routine issues?
Routine matters are resolved from 7:00 AM CST to 5:00 PM CST, Monday through Thursday and from 7:00 AM CST to 11:00 AM CST on Friday.
