It’s the start of a new year folks and we are looking forward to sharing it with you.
Amber McDaniel has been with LDARtools for five years and she makes sure our billing is done correctly and submitted for payment in timely fashion. But she hasn’t always been a part of the LDAR industry. She was a Veterinary Technician for 6 years and became a full-time mother when her first child was born. “When I needed to go back to work, LDARtools was right in my path,” she says.
She had a natural knack for invoicing and while she had “no previous knowledge or experience [in the industry],” she admits. “I’m learning as much as I can about different aspects of the company. The most important thing I have learned is the value of good leadership and support.”
During the weekends, she hangs out with her 3 children, and volunteers, travels, and reads when she has a moment to spare.
Thank you for all you have done for LDARtools and for all of the contributions you have made to the entire LDAR community!
We look forward to many more years!

We know that repairs can be irritating, but that they are also part of the LDAR world. LDARtools strives to make repairs as easy as possible and to keep the loss of time and money to a minimum. Reporting repairs and updating your part warranties are the key to great repair practices.
Remember, before any repairs are performed on-site, you must fill out the Report an Issue form under the “Support Login” on the LDARtools website. Following the report submission, you will receive instructions and procedures via email. To protect the intrinsic safety and reliability of the phx21 analyzer, ONLY certified personnel may perform the repairs.
Pump Warranty Procedure
- To activate the pump warranty, email a photo or scanned JPEG of the completed chart on the pump procedure to pump@ldartools.com. (We do NOT need a picture of the sticker on the pump.)
- Warranty update email must be sent the same day the new pump is installed.
- The subject of the email should be only the new pump serial number.
Example: “x123443”. Nothing else should be in the subject line. - Email should be sent from a current registered level 1 phx21 repair technician email account so that we can tie the warranty to your viewable equipment history.
- Include ONE photo / JPEG per email. The image must be attached – not in the body of the email.
- If camera phones are not allowed on-site, a scanned file saved as JPEG format is acceptable.
- All fields are required to start the warranty.
- If you do not receive a confirmation within one day, we did not receive your email. Please forward your original email to support@ldartools.com with a note stating that you did not receive a confirmation.
- Compliance with this procedure will activate the warranty on the pump. Failure to follow all steps in the procedure will void the warranty.
Keep in mind that this registers your warranty. If abuse is found the pump will not be covered by warranty. As always, if you have any questions please contact support@ldartools.com.
For the third time, on August 18, 2016, we had ZERO phx21s in our repair center.
It’s a remarkable feat with the growing number of phx21s out in the wild (there were 753 back in August). As a way to thank everybody for their support and to celebrate this momentous occasion, we sent out a call for RSVPs.
The response was heartwarming: we sent 1,368 brownies to 71 sites.
We’ll continue to stay true to our goal of providing the best products and service to the LDAR community. Here’s to more ZERO repair days and trying to make LDAR fun!
We are pleased to announce Sage EHS International WOFE Suzhou as the LDARtools Customer of the Month for September.
Mr. Ed Quick and Ms. Gu Mi, who manage the office, perfectly display one of LDARtools’ most important Core Values – Humility.
Ed and Gu work tirelessly to provide the highest level of service to end users, and continually seek further knowledge about phx21. Recently, they made learning more about phx21 repairs their highest priority. They realized that they could know more and wanted to learn more. To support this goal, they set aside time and completed the phx21 Level One Training.
Thanks for your commitment to striving for the best and for always being willing to learn.
The filters in your phx21™ are designed to protect your pump and restrictors from contaminants. Contaminants can also sneak into your phx21 through even the smallest holes in your probe and probe hose. Use the following Methods to protect your probe.
Method 1: Block the Probe Tip (Check-Daily)
- With the phx21 running, place your thumb over the probe tip. The pump should quickly stop. Remove your thumb. Restart the pump, test complete.
- If the unit does not stop, the pump is still drawing a “sample” through a leak in your probe.
- Go to Method 3 to quickly locate the leak.
Method 2: Probe vs. Inlet Flow Rates (Check-Weekly or Max PPL)
- Use flow meter assembly (LDAR# 1735) to measure the flow at your probe tip.
- Use your flow meter assembly to measure the flow at your probe port.
- If the probe port flow is greater than the probe tip flow, you have a leak.
- Go to Method 3 to quickly locate the leak.
Method 3: Pin-Point the Leak (Check-When probe port flow > probe tip flow)
ATTENTION: Before beginning test, make sure this is within site safety parameters.
- Add a 5-foot piece of tubing to your probe tip. This is to avoid drawing a contaminated sample.
- Without causing a spark, depress the button on a BIC lighter to release a flow of butane.
Caution: DO NOT strike a flame with the lighter. - Direct the Butane along the length of the probe hose and at the joints of your probe while watching the PDA connected to the phx21.
- Move the lighter slowly. If there is a leak, it will be drawn through the breach, into the phx21 and will register a PPM reading in a matter of seconds.
- If you detect a PPM reading, isolate the leak. If the probe hose is leaking replace it. If the probe is leaking, report an issue.
